Il vero Alfredo

As these pages print it.

Two titles, and AUUSTEO

The site prints several titles for the same restaurant, and one of them drops a letter. The splash spells Augusteo. The 2010 frameset spells Augusteo in capitals. The English frameset prints AUUSTEO, and it prints ALLA with a single L. The history page and the English article page use a colon and the word Imperatore or the heading The real Alfredo.

Under those titles, a row of section names looks like a menu. Home and History still link. The other names do not, because those pages are not in the archive.

Four titles, letter by letter

The splash title is IL VERO ALFREDO ALL'AUGUSTEO - imperatore delle fettuccine! IL VERO ALFREDO ALL'AUGUSTEO is in capitals. imperatore delle fettuccine is in lower case. There is a hyphen with spaces, and there is an exclamation mark. Augusteo contains the G. ALL' uses an apostrophe.

The 2010 frameset title is IL VERO ALFREDO ALL'AUGUSTEO - IMPERATORE DELLE FETTUCCINE. IMPERATORE DELLE FETTUCCINE is in capitals. There is no exclamation mark. Augusteo still has the G. The address note quotes this frameset because its no-frames table prints the square and ROMA.

The English frameset title is THE REAL ALFREDO ALLA AUUSTEO - EMPEROR OF FETTUCCINE! ALLA has one L. AUUSTEO has no G. EMPEROR OF FETTUCCINE is in capitals, and the exclamation mark is there. The no-frames heading inside that page says L'ORIGINALE ALFREDO ALL'AUGUSTEO, which puts the G back and uses ORIGINALE rather than VERO.

The history page title is Il vero Alfredo all'Augusteo: l'Imperatore delle fettuccine. Sentence case, a colon, and Imperatore capitalised. The English article page uses the same title element, and its visible heading is The real Alfredo. The portrait note records that heading's missing numeral.

The English frameset, besides the typo

The English no-frames text says the web site is optimized for the use of frames but the browser doesn't support them. It says it is possible to visit using the navigation bar. The word Next is in the markup as escaped text, not as a live link, inside a block that has been stored with repeated escaped tags.

The Italian frameset says the same thing in Italian, with the spellings the 2010 snapshot actually has. E' possibile comunque visitarlo, without an accent on E. Si Aprirà, with a capital A. una finestra di menù contenete la barra, with contenete missing an n. SUCCESSIVO is text, not a link, because noframe/main.htm is not in the archive and the anchor was removed.

Both framesets point the main frame at frame/main2.htm and the bar at comandi.htm. Neither file is in the archive. The frameset tags are the original structure of those two URLs. They are not links in the body text. The splash, which is the page a visitor gets at the bare domain, does not use a frameset. It is the table with the portrait, the address, and the two language buttons.

The Italian button's alt is Versione Italiana and its target is home.htm, the frameset with the G intact. The English button's alt is English version and its target is english/home.htm, the frameset with AUUSTEO. The telephone note is the difference in the numbers under those two titles.

The words that are no longer links

On the history page and on index-eng.htm the bar reads Home, History, Menu, Celebrities, Directions, Franchising, Contact us, and then Virtual Tour or Virtual tour, Guest book, and Video. Home points at index-eng.htm. History points at history.htm. The Italian flag image, whose alt is the word english in lower case, points at index.htm.

Menu, Celebrities, Directions, Franchising, Contact us, Virtual Tour, Guest book, and Video are the words of pages that are not in this archive. The anchors were removed. The words remain. Virtual Tour on the history page keeps the space that was inside the old link. Virtual tour on the English page is lower-case tour.

There is no menu, no list of celebrities, no directions, no franchising terms, no contact form, no guest book, and no video page in the archive to quote. The Flash object on index-eng.htm is the one video-related file that is here, and it is an object, not the Video item in the bar. Its archived path is the local /youtube.com/v/V7xjrCDrqS0 file.

The note does not reconstruct those missing pages from memory of the restaurant. The street note already refuses a route the Directions page might have held, because that page is not here.

The footer that names nobody

Both long pages end with ©2010 All Rights Reserved, a dot, and WebDesign by, with a space and no name. The dot sits in the line. No city follows by. by is the last word. There is no studio, no person, and no city after it.

Above the footer, Follow us online is a heading and Share is a heading. The list items under them are empty. The pages do not print a network name or a handle. They print the headings and then nothing.

2010 is the copyright year. It is not printed as the year of the restaurant's opening. That year, on the history page, is 1950 for the square, and 1908 for the birth. The copyright line does not mention fettuccine, Augusteo, or AUUSTEO.

The splash has no ©2010 line. Its footer, such as it is, is the yellow row with ITALIANO and ENGLISH as plain words. The framesets have no ©2010 line in the no-frames table either. The copyright belongs to the two long pages, history.htm and index-eng.htm.

What the titles agree on

Every full title except The real Alfredo contains fettuccine or FETTUCCINE. The splash, the Italian frameset, the history page, and the English frameset all name Alfredo. The disagreement is Augusteo against AUUSTEO, VERO against REAL and ORIGINALE, imperatore against IMPERATORE against Emperor, and the exclamation mark, which the 2010 frameset omits and the splash and the English frameset keep.

ALL'AUGUSTEO on the splash and the Italian frameset uses an apostrophe between ALL and AUGUSTEO. ALLA AUUSTEO on the English frameset uses a space and no apostrophe, and it drops both the second L's usual pair and the G. The no-frames line L'ORIGINALE ALFREDO ALL'AUGUSTEO on that same English page shows that the page can spell the name with a G in one place and without it in the title.

The history colon and the splash hyphen are two different punctuation marks between the name and the imperial phrase. The note does not standardise them. A visitor can open each URL and find the title this note quotes.

None of these titles mentions Lazio, a hotel, or a second restaurant. The pages name one place in Rome, at the square or, on the history page only, also in Via della Scrofa. The titles themselves stay on Alfredo and the fettuccine.

Questions

Where is AUUSTEO printed?

In the title of english/home.htm: THE REAL ALFREDO ALLA AUUSTEO. The no-frames line on that same page spells ALL'AUGUSTEO with the G. The splash title also has the G.

Which section names still link?

Home and History, and the flag image that points at index.htm. Menu, Celebrities, Directions, Franchising, Contact us, Virtual Tour, Guest book, and Video are text.

Who is named after WebDesign by?

Nobody. The line is ©2010 All Rights Reserved, then WebDesign by, and it stops.
